Halibut in Juneau

  • Halibut regulations change annually. Some key regulations for the 2025 season are as follows:

  • Charter halibut permits are very costly! In 2025, a 4-pole permit cost the operator of Charters 10 thousand dollars. To pass that cost onto the guest —I would never recoup that money- it is just not feasible.

  • for 2025 the charter Halibut permit can only be used for one trip a day (even if you serve several tours a day)

  • the reverse slot limit for 2025 is less than or equal to 37”. You can not retain a halibut that is bigger than 37 inches. [ Live weight 22.7 pounds- 17 pounds dressed]

  • A guest can only catch ONE halibut A DAY

  • Tuesdays are a NO HALIBUT FISHING DAY for charter boats

  • Cost to ship fish can be upwards of 200-400 dollars, depending where you live. Thats is just shipping. Processing fees can be an additional 50-75 dollars.

  • For these reasons we choose not to participate in Halibut fishing this season.

  • We are choosing to focus on Salmon this season

  • Let’s go catch some SALMON!
